Porous Teflon tubing has a creating a microporous structure with many of the characteristics of PTFE except it is much more porous than regular PTFE tubing. The material consists of nodes connected by fibrils. The tube is hydrophobic and resists the penetration of water while allowing gases and non-polar solutions to flow freely through the pores. With sufficient pressure or wetting of the material with a surfactant, polar solutions such as water can also be pushed through the pores.
